The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s Access Initiative and Foster Care Family Days focus on ensuring that all audiences, regardless of economic status, demographic background, physical and mental capability, or geographic location, can access the wide range of museum programs. Access Initiative programs for children with disabilities offer customized multisensory learning experiences that foster social-emotional and academic growth within a comfortable environment. Foster Care Family Days offer hundreds of children in transitional housing and new foster families a free fun-filled day of guided tours, interactive science demonstrations, art activities, and a catered meal. Together, these programs remove barriers to participation to ensure that children with disabilities, children in transitional housing, and foster families have opportunities to explore their interests in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM).
